A magnetic or piezo pickup can be wired to a switch, allowing you to select between the two systems. In this configuration, they operate separately—either piezo or magnetic. A blender, on the other hand, is an active unit that balances signals with different impedance, enabling seamless mixing of piezo and magnetic pickups. With a blender-equipped bass, you can blend a magnetic pickup with a touch of acoustic character or punch, or fully utilize both signals simultaneously.
